The Resort at Fisher Island Club is a hotel that’s located alongside the homes of the super-rich on a private island. The island is 10 minutes away from Miami mainland via ferry and provides its guests with a resort that rich in history and charm. It also has a great and beautiful golf course and tennis facilities that couples or families can enjoy.
The 45-room hotel is located on Fisher Island, a private island that was built in 1925 by William Vanderbilt II as a winter estate but now serves as a residential community. People who visit the island will be taken back in time as peacocks can be seen roaming the grounds, and the Vanderbilt Mansion, which houses two of the island’s restaurants, is still intact and genteel waiters in tuxedo are waiting to serve.
The Resort at Fisher Island Club is accessible only be ferry, helicopter, seaplane or boat and is 15 minutes away from South Beach (10 minutes by ferry and another 5 minutes by car). It offers guests three types of charming and unique rooms to choose from, the 470-square-foot deluxe garden view guest rooms, the 720-square-foot junior garden view suites, and the 675-square-foot courtyard garden view villas.
The villas are located in the center of the garden and it has private terraces and whirlpools. The rooms are decorated with earthly tones for a more nature-inspired atmosphere. Rooms also have balconies that are overlooking the ocean or the gardens and guests can enjoy a flat-screen TV with premium cable, iPod docking station, and free Wi-Fi. The two and three bedroom residences have kitchens that are stocked with Wolfgang Puck pots and pans, plates, glasses, and silverware. The one room residences have kitchenettes.
Once guests step out of the room, they can enjoy a lot of the features and amenities that the hotel offers. Chief among them is the 9-hole golf course, which is designed by Pete Dye and offers Scottish bunkers that have views of the ocean, Biscayne Bay, and the Miami skyline. Guests have a direct line in their rooms that connects them to the course to schedule their tee times.
Aside from the beautiful golf course, guests can also enjoy the Grand Slam Tennis Center that features 14 clay, two grass, and two hard courts. The Fisher Island also has 14 pools, and five of them are available for hotel guests to use, and the best among them is the main Mansion Pool that has a coral deck, limestone walls, a view of the ocean and is filled with salt water and kept at 85-degrees Fahrenheit.
For those who don’t want to swim, they can go to the 22,000-square foot Spa Internazionale that have a huge fitness center and a Pilates studio. For the guests who will be going to the island via their own boat or yacht can use the Vanderbilt marina, where it can accommodate yachts up to 250 feet long, or the Main marina, which can accommodate boats of up to 180 feet long.
The Resort at Fisher Island Club offers a lot of food options that are good but not gourmet. The Beach Club serves casual beachside dining, while the Porto Cervo serves Mediterranean dishes. Guests can also dine at the La Trattoria that serves pizza and casual Italian. Other restaurants include the City View, Garwood Lounge, Sunset Bar, and Sushi Bar.
The hotel, though, has some inconveniences that guests have to deal with like the fitness center being open until 8 pm only. The hotel’s accessibility could also be a problem for several guests and the Fisher Island has a Club membership fee of $60-per-room-per-night. Though, these are turnoffs for a lot of guests, the Resort at Fisher Island Club is a good place for people or families who are looking for a unique and private getaway when they’re in Miami.
